TOP 10 Songs of 2017

Top-10-Songs-2017

I knew when I started working on this list that it was going to be damn near impossible to just list 5 songs so it became the Top 10 Songs of 2017 and even that was hard. There were a lot of good songs in 2017 and there was no rhyme or reason on how to get on this list. These are just songs that stuck throughout the year and some were played on repeat for days or weeks on end. Listen to all below on Spotify except for “Peach Juice”, listen below.

THE TOP 10 SONGS FROM 2017.

#10
“PEACH JUICE” by THE MIDNIGHT HOLLOW

What tasty little peach this jam is, and yes that was a horrible joke but confidently intended. This song is fun and funky. Big and bold in sound and just down right booty shaking. That’s one of my favorite things about TMH. They can go from quiet seduction to loud crunchy guitars without losing a beat. This song showcases that talent.

#9
“DEMOLITION MAN” by THE CADILLAC THREE
From their latest album LEGACY, this song is just a great toe tapping tune. I have been a fan of TC3 since they were a rock band called AMERICAN BANG and though they may now be grouped into the country genre, they are still a band that produces music that just makes you want to have a good time. This song makes you want to sing it loud and proud.

#8
“NEED YOU” by AEORA

This single was released in November from Melbourne, Australia’s AEORA and it easily landed in my Top 10 for 2017. It is heart wrenching, heart breaking and just an emotional powerhouse. Aeora’s voice reverberates the pain and emotion of loving and needing someone.

#7
“WHITE OFFERINGS” by AFI

From their latest album AFI (THE BLOOD ALBUM), this song was the first song I fell in love with in 2017. It made me remember how much I love the sound and music of AFI. It is a solid rocker from this ever evolving band who have never flinched because the music industry changed.

#6
“LITTLE THING GONE WILD” by BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB

From their forthcoming 2018 album, WRONG CREATURES, this song is why I am a BRMC fan. Their rockers are infectious and delicious little tunes that make you want to speed down the highway of life with the top down and this song is all of that.

#5
“DROP ME IN THE WATER” by OUR LADY PEACE

From their latest EP SOMETHINGNESS VOL. 1 and for longtime OLP fans a return to the sound that is OUR LADY PEACE came onto the music scene with. It is a perfect combination of lyric and music that just make this song awesome.

#4
“WHEN I MET YOU” by DAVID BOWIE
This is from his EP, NO PLAN and released almost a year after BLACKSTAR. For me, it was easy to have this song in the Top 10. All you really need to say is DAVID BOWIE and you have why a song, any song is on a top list.

#3
“COMFORTABLE” by LANKS
This song arrived in June and was a breathe of fresh air despite the dark subject matter of depression. A lot of songs about depression are musically down tempo but “Comfortable” is the opposite and is a contagious uptempo song. I am a firm believer that if a song is about depression and makes you feel lighter and brighter after listening to it, that’s a good thing and this song is a beautiful thing.

#2
“PERISCOPE” by PAPA ROACH featuring SKYLAR GRAY
I don’t now if taken aback are the right words or if surprised is even the right words, but when I first heard this song from their latest album CROOKED TEETH, I was hooked. This song honestly just hit me in the gut. I resonated with lyrics and I understood them. I still listen to this song daily.

#1
“DIE YOUNG” by SYLVAN ESSO

This is my favorite song from their latest album WHAT NOW. I honestly can’t find the right words to express why this is my number one song of 2017. Amazing. Catchy. None of the words in my brain can sum it up perfectly so I won’t try. It’s a damn good song and it’s my favorite from 2017.

Honorable mentions:
“SAY YES TO LIFE” by GANG OF YOUTHS
“TALKING TO MYSELF” by LINKIN PARK
