A CONVERSATION WITH…Joshua Ingram

Hailing from Fort Worth, TX, singer songwriter, Joshua Ingram, recently released “Look (Stacey’s Song)” and we were fortunate to sit down with Joshua to discuss the song, his approach to music and more!

ATN: For those unfamiliar with you and your music, how would you describe Joshua Ingram in 5 words?

JI: Uplifting, Inspiring, Creative, Relatable, Personal

ATN: Who or what inspired you to enter the music world?

JI: I knew from an early age music was part of me.  It just made sense to make it part of my livelihood as well

ATN: How do you approach writing music?

JI: I start with the message and try to find music to help express it.  Then, I consider what my plan for the song will be once I’m finished.

ATN: What about songwriting or being an artist bring you joy?

JI: I love to be able to express myself, to share that with others, and to see the impact it has.  There’s nothing like having someone tell me that one of my songs really spoke to them or helped them feel good. It’s one thing to have people singing along, but quite another to be able to help someone when they need it.

ATN: What about it does not bring you joy?

JI: It is exhausting to play as many shows as I play.  I have to be really careful not to over-extend myself and sometimes I just have to rest when I would rather work.  I don’t enjoy being tired, but I’m proud and thankful for the opportunity to be tired from doing what I love.

ATN: What was the inspiration behind “Look (Stacey’s Song)”?

JI: A friend of mine was back in town from a work trip.  He talked about how much he missed his lady, Stacey.  As we were just chatting about it, I banged the lyrics out on my smartphone.  The music for it is a little more complex than what I typically write, so I spent some time getting it to be exactly what I wanted.  I’m happy with the way the acoustic version came out and am excited to see what happens when we get the whole band on it.

ATN: What’s on the horizon for 2023?

JI: More shows, more songs, more videos, more sleep (yeah, right).  We intend to crank out more of what we’ve been doing in order to create new opportunities.  Sometimes, it can feel like we’re not making headway.  When you’re sailing across the water to the other side, it can look like the other shore never gets closer.  Sometimes you have to look back to where you came from to see the distance you’ve travelled.  It’s like that in music.  While there is always more to do, I can look back and remember times I didn’t have shows, couldn’t write, didn’t have records out, and wasn’t sure how to do any of it.  We’re miles past that now with still a very long way to go.

SAME 3 QUESTIONS WE ALWAYS ASK

ATN: Artist / band that you feel is the most underrated and why?

JI: Counting Crows are by far underrated.  It may not seem like it because they tour the world, but in my opinion they deserve the hype that has been reserved for bands or artists that are far less talented or creative.

ATN: Artist / band that you would like to collaborate with and why?

JI: Counting Crows because I feel like working with them on something would help me grow in ways I want and need to.  I would have so many questions for them.

ATN: Artist / band that you would like to tour with and why?

JI: Counting Crows because I feel like my music would be liked by their fans, and then I’d get to see them play every day.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to share about my music!

ATN: You’re welcome, we like to amplify the noise of artists!
