EP REVIEW: Learning to Love Again by Aisha Badru

In Learning to Love, out now on Nettwerk, Aisha Badru explores the crossroads of romantic entanglements and self-care

Can you have one with the other?
Can you have one without the other?

Through Aisha’s lyrics, the answer is yes, you can have both but it only happens if one has self-care and self-love first.

That self-love and self-care reality shines through the lyrics of “Inside”, a song to oneself about loving yourself first.

Aisha says,

Everything has a purpose. I was meant to be here, doing this. And it’s just part of my purpose to experience certain levels of trauma that are very universal, go through every process of healing, and somehow put it together so I can help guide someone else.

As Aisha helps heal the hearts of those that listen, she empowers and lifts them to be the best versions of themselves through her heartfelt and emotional lyrics.

There’s something unapologetically honest about Aisha’s voice – it’s soft, graceful, ethereal, delicate yet commanding.

The ethereal voice can be heard on the lead track, “Lazy River”, the delicate on “Path of Least Resistance”, soft on the “Inside”, and graceful on “Moving On”.

But it’s on the standout track, “Move” where Aisha’s vocals are commanding and defiant. A moment of ‘I woman, hear me roar’ empowerment.

Aisha says this about about “Move”,

It’s about the healing modality of movement and releasing trapped emotions. I really am such a lively person. Like, I’m always dancing around the house, but that doesn’t come across. Now I’m at this place where it’s healing for me to work through my emotions through movement.

If the previous four tracks are the journey to healing and loving oneself, then “Move” is the self realisation and aha moment that the soul is healed and ready for the next step in the journey of life.

Learning to Love Again is heartfelt, empowering, and uplifting and it’s because of Aisha’s sincere and honest lyrics and magical healing voice.
