With Searching for Strawberries: The Story of Jongo Bongo, Act I out, Act II of the trilogy is now out and continues the captivating storytelling of Jongo.
At the end of Searching for Strawberries: The Story of Jongo Bongo, Act I we were left with Jongo Bongo deciding to hike the Santiago De Camino, a 500 mile expedition through Spain.
Unlike Act I, there are 5 songs for Act II and it kicks off the song “2 U’s” and I’m hooked with the bass. It puts the fun in funky and is infectious, catchy, and a downright jam from the beats to the rhymes.
Within the film, the “2 U’s” finds Jongo kicking off on the Santiago De Camino with gusto and battling his two selves – the one that everyone sees and the one that is deep within himself. The song and video perfectly captures that inner battle between the two halves of a person and how one can overcome that inner battle with resounding success.
Compared to the funky driven “2 U’s”, the song “Northern Lights” is down tempo and explores the pain of a spiritual journey, not just of the journey of the hike, but the journey of grief and love. This lyrical journey is mostly shown through Jongo meeting love.
Quick and dirty, “Good Eats” is a delectable treat. Chock full of foods and reasons to eat them all, the song serves as a reminder to live life and to enjoy what life lays upon your path…be it food or experiences.
The song “Brothers” is a wonderful ode to siblings and allows the listeners to see the appreciation that brothers James and Jared Priestner have for each other, but even those who may not have blood brothers, the song does showcase that the brotherhood bond is not just blood bound but can be chosen as well.
Closing out Act II, is the film portion of “No Troubles”, Jongo faces returning home and leaving his love as she returns to Montreal. This is the pivotable moment of Act II for Jongo and his journey and is fantastically showcased through the song. Has the Santiago De Camino journey healed him or helped him or is he even more of a mess than when he started?
Act I and II are out now
Act III will be out on July 7th
