It’s a double whammy release from artist, Seethe.
From their upcoming album Delenda: A Black Rose On The Epitaph is “Linear” and from a project featuring 12 different artists is “The Cypher of the Mourning Star”.
First, let’s dive into “Linear”.
Following lead track “Can’t Breathe” which delved into the depths of mental health, “Linear” focuses more on creating a sense of balance by navigating one’s mind into required direction to find ‘normality’.
What I find unique about “Linear” is that it does not sound linear. Nor does it musically invoke a sense of balance but almost a sense of rewind like that of playing an album backwards. But that notion of looking back or rewinding allows a step forward. While the music may invoke a moment of reflection, in that reflection there is a wondrous sense of ease.
“The Cypher of the Mourning Star” is a menagerie of artists joining Seethe. 12 artists to be exact.
Seethe says this of the track,
I’ve had the pleasure of working with many different people all over the globe and featuring on their songs. I don’t really do features on my material, but I wanted to give back to those that have helped me and put me on along the way. I picked people who I knew would throw down and deliver. What was cool about it is we all had that common ground of metal, but everyone brought something different and cool to the table and absolutely crushed it.
Artists joining Seethe on the heavy track are, Skippy Ickum, Matt Matigian TYFY, Heartattack Kid, Killa No1ze, Six Scars, Karkizz, Skies of Terra, Silhouette Death, The Death of Zenith, and Skeptik. With that many artists, “The Cypher of the Mourning Star” could have easily turned into a dog’s breakfast, but there is a wonderful cohesiveness throughout the song that honestly makes it feel as if it’s one artist performing. It goes to show that Seethe did more than just pick artists who would deliver but had the foresight to pick artists who could also become a unit through sound and style.
Like the ability to bring cohesion between 12 artists, Seethe brings cohesion in blending genres of blends trap, metal, rock and both “Linear” and “The Cypher of the Mourning Star” further reveal Seethe’s distinct style of music.
