[MEDIA RELEASE] Melodic death quintet THE JOTUNN present a ferocious take on AT THE GATES’s “Suicide Nation”. The ensemble from Ohio, US, cultivate an intense sonic experience by compiling symphonic elements on top of melodic death metal and melodic deathcore: “We really like to wear our influences on our sleeve and let those influences breathe life in to songs that can stand on their own.” “Suicide Nation” is the first of a tripart offering landing over the summer of 2025.
“AT THE GATES is a HEAVY influence for this band”, vocalist Paul Kahan explains. “Slaughter of the Soul is a defining album for us as listeners and players. We along with so many other bands have used this album as a blueprint for how melodic metal should sound for a long time.
Kahan also has a personal connection with “Suicide Nation”. Kahan recalls the first time he heard the track: “I was absolutely blown away. I remember that being a really pivotal moment for me personally with music. It became one of my favorite songs of all time and I remember in the back of my head that if I ever had the opportunity to do a cover this would be the first one I pitched. I basically begged the band to do it.”
