NEWS: Emily Wurramara Makes History and Announces Encore Tour

Emily Wurramara, the internationally celebrated Warnindhilyagwa artist, has cemented her place in music history with a groundbreaking win at the ARIA Awards. Her album NARA earned her the award for Best Adult Contemporary Album, making her the first Indigenous woman to win in the category since its inception in 1987. Adding to her accolades, she also secured the rage & triple j Film Clip of the Year at the J Awards for her track “Lordy Lordy.”

Reflecting on her historic ARIA win, Emily expressed heartfelt gratitude,

“I [want] to say how honoured I am to be the first Indigenous woman to win the Best Adult Contemporary Album Award ever in ARIA history. I’d just like to acknowledge all the Elders and all the mob who came here in order for me to be here. NARA is a big album for me, and I am so so honoured to be receiving this nod and recognition – big love, and thanks everyone for the support.”

NARA showcases Emily’s exceptional storytelling and musical artistry, featuring a mix of English and Anindilyakwa lyrics. Co-produced with James Mangohig, the album has resonated deeply with audiences, debuting at #17 on the ARIA Aus Albums Chart and receiving praise from Rolling Stone, The Age, and Double J, which ranked it among the year’s best albums. The record journeys through personal highs and lows, capturing Wurramara’s resilience and growth.

Following sold-out performances and appearances at prestigious festivals like WOMADelaide and Perth Festival, Wurramara has announced encore dates for February and March 2025. The tour will see her performing across so-called VIC, WA, SA, NSW, and ACT, delivering shows that are both intimate and filled with communal energy.

Emily Wurramara’s career spans multiple celebrated releases, including her debut album Milyakburra and collaborations with iconic names like PNAU, Emma Donovan, and Baker Boy. Her ability to weave heartfelt narratives with mesmerizing melodies continues to captivate audiences globally.
