TOUR NEWS: Billie Marten Announces AU & NZ January Tour

[MEDIA RELEASE] Critically acclaimed British singer-songwriter Billie Marten is thrilled to announce her debut Australia and New Zealand tour. This series of intimate live performances coincides with her much-anticipated appearance at the iconic Beyond the Valley festival.

To coincide with the tour announcement, Billie shares the lush, live-recorded single “Crown”. Reflecting on the song, Billie reveals:

“I wrote this in my garden last summer while staring at my cat sitting peacefully in the shade. It’s a song of longing, of accepting who you are, a truthful interlude.”

The song was recorded in Brooklyn, NY, with celebrated producer Philip Weinrobe (Adrianne Lenker, Cass McCombs), following Billie’s standout appearance at the Newport Folk Festival. Featuring an ensemble of world-class musicians, including Núria Graham on harmonies and Mauro Refosco (David Byrne) on percussion, “Crown” captures a moment of raw, collaborative magic.

We made this song in what felt like an instant, elbow to elbow, circled up, delicately listening to each other breathe, and sing, and play. Honestly magical. I wish you could have been there. Thank goodness we recorded it.”

These tour dates come on the heels of Billie’s sold-out, headline performance at London’s Barbican Centre, where she teamed up with free-form string ensemble Her Ensemble for orchestral re-imaginings of tracks from her four celebrated studio albums. Known for her emotive storytelling and timeless songwriting, Billie continues to captivate audiences worldwide, earning accolades from international tastemakers BBC Radio 1NMEThe Guardian and GQ UK among others.

Hailing from North Yorkshire, Billie Marten draws on English folk traditions, blending themes of nature, love, and introspection. Since her 2016 debut Writing of Blues and Yellows, she has evolved into a distinctive artist balancing vulnerability and resilience in her lyricism. Tracks like “Vanilla Baby,” (produced by Ethan Johns) with over 32 million Spotify streams, highlight her enduring appeal, while her 2021 album Flora Fauna introduced alt-rock elements to her sound. With her last album, 2023’s Drop Cherries (Dom Monks) — her highest first-week seller to date — Billie embraced a live, one-take recording ethos, crafting an intimate exploration of human connection that reaffirms her place as one of contemporary folk’s most compelling voices.

Following the success of the Drop Cherries world tour, Billie is excited to finally connect with her Australian and New Zealand audiences.

“Australia and New Zealand Too long have I been away from you. I’ve dreamt of this trip for many years now – ecstatic to be not far away from this new reality. I simply cannot wait to play for you and meet you all and experience your home towns. Ecstatic.”
