EP REVIEW: The Suspended Woman by Kilter featuring Andromeda Anarchia

The progressive post metal jazz trio, Kilter, invites us to the musical frontier with their latest work, The Suspended Woman, featuring the Andromeda Anarchia. Set to unveil on November 17th, this nine-track EP serves as a tantalising precursor to their expansive full-length album, La Suspendida, slated for release in 2024.

With the EP’s impressive track count, standing at nine, Kilter effortlessly blurs the lines of what is considered progressive and post metal with their inclusion of a saxophone.

If Jerry had Dorothy at ‘hello’, then Kilter had me at a saxophone.

Their bass-driven and saxophone-infused melodies cast a spell, making any musical venture they undertake a captivating journey.

On the grandeur of La Suspendida, bassist Laurent David shares his excitement:

I’m extremely honored to introduce you to the first part of our massive opera project! Before you dive into the entire thing, here’s a sneak peek with stripped-down versions of nine out of the seventeen tracks that make up the opera, performed as a trio. These are raw, intense renditions recorded during our Europe India tour in November 2022. Crank up the volume, of course.

No further words are necessary.

The Suspended Woman demands a devoted listen. It beckons like the darker corners of Fantasia – moody, intense, heavy, and, at times, grungy. The Suspended Woman entwines slick grooves, brilliant brass, and thundering drums, creating a tapestry that captures the imagination.

Not only is The Suspended Woman a sneak listen into La Suspendida, but a portal into an auditory experience that goes beyond genre boundaries. The Suspended Woman is electrifying as it is extraordinary.

The Suspended Woman will be available on Bandcamp and other streaming services.
