Named after the cyclical nature of mental health, Rebirth. Relive. Repeat. by progressive post-rock artist Maebe (aka Michael Astley-Brown) showcases the balance of damage and determination of the mind through the instrumental flare of guitars and music.
Rebirth. Relive. Repeat. is also Maebe’s mantra.
Artists also go through the cyclical nature of creating – by the time an album is out, the artist has more than likely moved on to working on other pieces, but often has to come back to relive where they were for the audience and fans who are hearing it for the first time.
Written, recorded, produced, and mixed by Maebe and mastered by Tom Peters (Alpha Male Tea Party, Last Hyena, A Burial at Sea), the instrumental doesn’t rely on just one genre of guitar style but blends them into one luscious and harmonious flow.
On the album, Maebe says,
My goal was to take the Maebe sound to new extremes in every direction. It’s heavier, groovier, dreamier, more aggressive. But crucially, the melody is always at the forefront. I wanted to create instrumental songs with hooks that really stick in your head, and with Rebirth. Relive. Repeat. I think I’ve achieved that.
Maebe’s skillful guitar work takes the spotlight and his companions on the sonic journey are two electric guitars – a Fernandes offset electric guitar, his instant soulmate, and a baritone Telecaster. He and his instrumental companions range from aggression to dreamy serenity, but they never sacrifice the alluring melodic hooks or the emotional punch.
Rebirth. Relive. Repeat. Pushes boundaries while merging genres and is a wonderful exploration of melodies for the mind and soul.
