Four piece Manchester based, By the Waves have released a gorgeous bass filled summer time jam with their debut single, “Looking Up”.
“Looking Up” is one part reggae, one part soul, and one part indie rock that equals to an infectious and downright catchy song that delivers not only on earworm worthy lyrics but grooves as well.
On the song, By the Waves says,
“In a rapidly changing world it’s easy to feel like you only exist if you have the latest clothing, only for it to be outdated the following week. Looking up is a reminder that life is hard, but that there is beauty all around us if we can stay humble and not get too cynical even when the light seems like a speck on the horizon. Despite all the odds, love makes life something worth shouting about.”
With Ben Thomas on vocals, James Murray on guitars, Luke Finch on drums, and Hristo Gerdzhikov on bass, By the Waves reminds me of all the finer points of bands like 311, Dirty Heads, and Sublime to name a few.
Soaked in the good time feel of a summer setting sun, “Looking Up” reverberates with soul, feel good vibes and fun.
