LISTEN: “Mission” by Jon Tyler Wiley & His Virginia Choir

Jon Tyler Wiley & His Virginia Choir are set to make a splash with their debut album, Pictures in the Dark, slated for release on March 28th and their latest single, “Mission,” exudes feel-good vibes that remind me of artists like Ryan Adams, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and John Prine.

With commentary on the modern world, “Mission” urges one to pause and appreciate life’s simple pleasures among the chaos, and let’s be honest, there’s a lot of chaos going on right now. We all could take a moment and stop and smell the roses and perhaps take a deep breath or two to bring some calming energy to our lives.

Ultimately, that’s the aim of “Mission”, to encourage a moment of pause.

On the song, Jon says,

“My wife and I have always lamented our individual addictions to our phones and other devices, and that’s how this song saw its lyrical genesis. I wanted to provide commentary on where we are now in screen culture. We’re in this information age, and we have all this data at our fingertips all the time, and I wanted to present the counter argument that maybe that’s not necessarily a good thing. Maybe there are repercussions.”

The infectious lyrics, catchy chorus, and melodic harmonies not only shows the chemistry of Jon Tyler Wiley & His Virginia Choir but also their incredible talent to spark nostalgia and joy through music.

Reminding us to put the doom scrolling device down, Jon Tyler Wiley & His Virginia Choir takes us to church with “Mission” and reminds us all to live in the moment.
