DEBUT EP REVIEW: Last or Later by Burnt Sherpa

Burnt Sherpa, the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Greg Green, is nearing the May 17 release date of their debut EP, Last or Later. With a nostalgic yet innovative blend of ’90s grunge, ’00s stoner rock, and ’80s underground vibes, Last or Later captures the essence of what rock ‘n’ roll is – an escape from the current reality.

Collaborating with producer Dean Dichoso, Burnt Sherpa brings their vision to life with expert precision. Dean’s involvement shapes the EP’s sound and direction, enhancing each track with rich textures and dynamic arrangements. Together, they craft a sonic experience that captivates from start to finish.

Songs like “Memories Collide” and “It’s Not the Heat” showcase Burnt Sherpa’s knack for unique sonic landscape, from the groovy bass lines reminiscent of Neo-soul to the raw intensity of ’90s grunge. While “Difficult Gift” is a poignant reflection on the impact of artists on one’s life and the enduring nature of their work. Inspired by the passing of Mark Lanegan, this song looks at the complexities of leaving behind a creative legacy. Through introspective lyrics and soulful melodies, Burnt Sherpa weaves personal experiences with a heartfelt tribute to the late artist.

With the closing track, “Sugar Rush”, Burnt Sherpa saves the best for last. An ode to his better half and written on his father in law’s guitar, the song is not only a wonderful tribute on love, but a beautiful threadline between father and daughter and wife and husband.

Whether rocking out on the road or finding solace in soulful melodies, Burnt Sherpa‘s music and Last or Later have the power to become a cherished part of life’s soundtrack.
