LISTEN: “Silent War” by In We Fall

Blending the aggression of alternative metal with a haunting message, In We Fall‘s latest single, “Silent War,” sets a powerful tone for their upcoming album Inner Self out on Eclipse Records on December 13th. The track is a visceral exploration of the human cost of conflict, made all the more compelling by the band’s fusion of progressive metal, grunge, and striking lyricism. While the accompanying lyric video, directed by Pedro Daniel, mirrors the song’s stark themes with visuals that amplify its intensity.

Opening with a brooding riff, “Silent War” quickly builds into a relentless sonic assault. Daniel Moreira’s vocals seamlessly move between raw grit and soaring melodies that capture the weight of the song’s subject matter. He explains,

“This song pays tribute to fallen souls of all global conflicts. The idea was to represent the current war between Russia and Ukraine, but it is a generality for any war scenario, so it is like a compliment to each of the soldiers.”

The poignant lyrics take centre stage and narrate the experience of individuals caught in the chaos of war. The band’s tight instrumentation, anchored by Luis Almeida’s driving basslines and Frederico Lopes’ complex drum patterns, gives the track both an edge and a sense of urgency.

One of the most striking aspects of “Silent War” is its ability to balance aggression with reflection. Carlos Carneiro’s guitar work, particularly during the soaring lead sections, adds depth to the song and provides moments of catharsis amidst the chaos. Offering both musical complexity and thought-provoking themes, “Silent War” isn’t just a song but a reminder of the scars left behind by conflict, packaged in a thunderous, unforgettable anthem.
