Revealing a softer and heartfelt side to their evolving sound, Bristol indie-rockers Chasing Kites take a more intimate approach with their newest single “Falling”. While known for their dynamic and synth-driven anthems, the band slows things down with a track that feels personal and reflective without losing its sense of melodic momentum.
The echoing guitar of Liam Hope and understated bassline from Nathan Price set a melancholic tone from the start. Frontman Matt Donnelly’s tender vocals carry the song and draws one into its simplicity and sincerity. The subtle progression of the song, from its gentle drums by James Hunt to its swelling and atmospheric final chorus make the entire track feel like an emotional crescendo.
Matt explains,
“‘Falling’ was written in a 10 minute moment of infatuation, after deciding I was going to spend the rest of my life with my partner. Since its inception, the track (for me) has become more than that. It has become a reminder to not take the people around you for granted and to take every opportunity to remind them of how much they mean to you. It may not show the same level of classical lyrical prowess as some of our other tracks, but this one comes straight from the heart.”
Its straightforward sentiment adds to the song’s genuine charm. While it’s a clear departure from the band’s more energetic material, “Falling” offers a glimpse into their versatility and emotional range. With the song’s lyrical honesty balancing the atmospheric guitars, tender vocals, and introspective tones, “Falling” is a heartfelt reflection on love.
