LISTEN: “Goodbye Again” by The Sizzos

With “Goodbye Again,” The Sizzos craft a track that is both a nod to the iconic sounds of the 80s and a modern production marvel. George Zaninovich, the creative force behind the Oregon-based project, channels raw personal experiences into a song that feels as emotionally charged as it is musically dynamic.

He says,

“There have been some monumental shifts in my life in the last 9 months and this is the first in a series of songs that will address all of it. While there is a full album coming out in early 2025, I wanted to get this out there as a form of catharsis. At first listen, the song sounds like a typical tale of unfaithfulness or and disloyalty, but it’s more about the complicated feelings around a relationship coming to its natural ending. There’s anger and curiosity, otherizing and intense self-reflection. Either way, there is sadness and pain to manage.”

Seamlessly blending electronic pop rock influences “Goodbye Again” pairs a driving guitar line with an ARP synth bass that pulses with infectious energy. Layered synths, contributed by Kabir Green, and a melodic guitar solo from Joe Dagostino elevate the arrangement and create a sound that is designed to fill a stadium.

The production by Steve Wytas of Dirt Floor Recording and Production adds a level of polish that highlights the song’s layered complexity. Vocals, slightly tucked into the mix, contribute to the intentional sense of distance, drawing one into the moody atmosphere.

Exploring the multifaceted emotions of a relationship’s natural end, “Goodbye Again” is more than a tale of heartbreak but one that is charged with themes of anger and sadness, but also offers introspection and healing to shine through.
