Adult Leisure’s latest single, “See Her,” is the kind of track that makes heartbreak feel oddly fun. Clocking in with tight precision and zero wasted moments, the Bristol quartet condenses post-relationship sarcasm into a punchy alt-pop anthem that’s equal parts shoulder-shrug and singalong.
There’s a clear confidence in the band and their signature blend of nostalgic and indie-leaning melodies are sharper than ever, but this time they crank the charm with the help of a perfectly placed guest spot from saxophonist John Waugh who is best known for his work with The 1975 and Sam Fender. His solo doesn’t just decorate the track though. It lifts it into something unexpected and undeniably cool.
Frontman Neil Scott leans into a knowing smirk rather than a spiral. He’s not picking through the wreckage. He’s throwing the match and walking away.
He says,
It’s about that feeling you get when you realise just how much better off you are now that it’s over.
And that freedom shows. The band sounds like they’re having a blast letting go.
“See Her” is pop without pretense. It doesn’t beg for your attention but it earns it through airtight structure, hooks that hit on first listen, and a sense of momentum that feels impossible to resist. If Adult Leisure’s upcoming debut The Things You Don’t Know Yet (October 3) carries this same energy, October can’t come soon enough. Until then, we have this gleaming breakup anthem with bite, nostalgic hooks, sharp lyrics, and a sax solo that slaps.
