LISTEN: “Magpie” by Alexei Shishkin

With “Magpie,” Alexei Shishkin turns idle fascination into inspired invention. Like most of Good Times, the song was born from total spontaneity. It was built from scratch in the studio with producer Bradford Krieger with zero preconceived ideas. Instead of chasing polish, the duo chased instinct, and it shows.

That instinct is playfully obsessive. Alexei’s idea for the track began with an open browser window filled with random magpie facts which he then spun into lyrics mid-session. The result is a track that feels light-footed and strangely sticky. It’s anchored by loose guitar interplay and a relaxed vocal delivery that favors mood over message.

“Magpie” shimmers with curiosity and cadence. It’s lo-fi, but deliberate and structured enough to hook you and loose enough to keep you guessing. That push and pull reflects Alexei’s refusal to overthink anything. “Magpie” isn’t a polished single but a studio experiment capturing just the right moments, and that’s exactly what makes the track work.
