HOT TRACK: “Have You Got What You Came Here For?” by Oswald Slain

Scrappy energy and risqué humour drive Oswald Slain’s rowdy new single, “Have You Got What You Came Here For?”. The playful punch of energy was written after a raucous night in the French Alps and the track carries the chaos of après-ski singalongs into the band’s DIY studio world.

 Vocalist Charlie Fitzgerald recalls,

Rhii and I spent a couple of months playing in the bars around the French Alps as a little rocky two-piece. It was really fun. Everyone was always super drunk and it was pretty full on.

That freewheeling spirit bleeds directly into the single’s frenetic pacing and rebellious bite. The recording leans into its imperfections in the best way, with producer Ryan Rogers contributing basslines that ground the track while Rhii Williams’ drums keep everything teetering on the edge of collapse. It’s a song that celebrates not being too polished and is a reminder that rock thrives on sweat, grit, and a little chaos.

It’s easy to hear why the song is a favourite to play live. Between its tongue-in-cheek title, risqué lyrical turns, and the sheer adrenaline of its performance, “Have You Got What You Came Here For?” feels like the band’s mission statement of ‘don’t overthink, just play hard and have fun’.

As they gear up for the release of their debut album Bucky on October 24th, Oswald Slain prove they’re not afraid to embrace the messy, joyful edges of rock.
