SOUND CHECK: Hedera Helix by ØVI

Named after the invasive nature of ivy, Hedera Helix by ØVI is a four track deep dive into the internal and external conflicts of life through the lens of mythological and folklore legends.

Whether ØVI is staring down the smothering appeal of relationships in “Lilith” or studying the parasitic control one can have on another in “Penganggalan”, the band brutally punctuates the sometimes cruel reality of life. Tracks like “Prometheon” and “Absolve” have a sense of anger that drives each song into something that feels almost ritualistic with friction.

With bombastic riffs, savage rhythms, and relentless vocals, Hedera Helix accomplishes to say more in its short fifteen minute run than some longer albums. It’s not merely a metaphor but a metamorphosis where anger is channeled with sharp intentions and crisp form. It’s EP that nurtures the growth from the very soil where the root has taken hold.
