ALBUM REVIEW: First Blood (Deluxe Edition) by GLDN

I would be remiss not to acknowledge the parallels between GLDN and iconic acts like Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, Deftones, and Puscifer. Their influences, as predecessors who paved the way for GLDN, are beautifully reflected in their album First Blood (Deluxe Edition).

With the deluxe redux, GLDN has not only remastered their 2022 release First Blood but has also expanded it to include tracks “Suicide Machine” and “Mettamorphosis” from their album Hemophilia, in addition to their latest single, “Harmful if Swallowed”.

Vocalist and songwriter, Nicholas Golden says this of the song,

As we continue to work on new music, something kept pulling me back to this track. I always felt there was more I wanted to do with it, and certain things that have taken place in my life over the last year finally allowed me to find the inspiration to finish it. I think it’s fair to say that many people can relate to the struggle to remain untainted or undamaged by the traumatic events they experience, and without going into specifics, that’s really what’s at the heart of this song.

Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, GLDN was founded in 2017 and consists of Kevin Marambio on guitars, Malachi Czuchwicki on bass, and Miguel Vela on drums. The inclusion of “Harmful if Swallowed” in the First Blood (Deluxe Edition) enhances the already moody, dark, and haunting essence of the band’s album.

With their darkness fully captured in the redux version of the songs on First Blood (Deluxe Edition), GLDN continues to master their evolution of heavy and unnerving music for the masses.
