ALBUM REVIEW: From the Underground by The Dead Krazukies

The Dead Krazukies, the powerhouse of French melodic punk, return with their anticipated album, From The Underworld. Building on the foundations laid by their previous works, From the Underworld shows The Dead Krazukies unwavering passion, fearlessness, and explosive energy.

Songs like “The Fallen and the Ferryman”, “From the Underworld”, and “The Wanderer” not only demonstrate the band’s ability but their agility to blend fierce vocals and fiery music for high intensity songs that zip and soar to volatile heights.

And can we take a moment to shine a spotlight on Maider’s vocals. Jeez f’n Louise they are fabulous. As we wrote for “Captain Crust”, Maider’s vocals are the love child of Tim McIlrath, Courtney Love, and Brody Dalle. Maider’s vocals not only carry an angsty raspiness but that of sass and ‘fight me, I dare you’ attitude. That attitude can be heard perfectly on “Silent March”. It captures everything that is wonderful about Maider’s voice.

The goodtime groovier songs like “Captain Crust”, “Darth Walnut” and “The Mindfucker” are relentless with punk energy that makes one want to bounce around like a pogo stick, but there are two songs that steals the spotlight on the album.

The reggae vibe of “Make Babylon Great Again” slows the energy down to a wonderful chilled back vibe and gives one listening to From the Underworld a moment to stop and catch their breath.

The second track is the cover of Michael Sembello’s 1983’s hit “Maniac”. Man, this cover is spectacular. It’s the cover we didn’t know we needed and now that it exists, it’s the cover we cannot live without. The Dead Krazukies’ version of “Maniac” is sheer perfection and also perfection are Maider’s cleaner, less raspy vocals. I love how the duality of Maider’s voice can be heard in the song.

From the first note, From the Underground grabs one by the throat and doesn’t let go until the final track plays. Each song on the album commands one’s attention, leaving them captivated, energised, and ready to take on the world.

From the Underworld is a must not miss adrenaline fueled experience.
