ALBUM REVIEW: I Love You Too by Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers

With their debut album I Love You, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers have captured the music world’s attention with their unique blend of wit and rock energy. Now, the deluxe version I Love You Too continues to showcase their growth but  also the diverse talents that each member brings to the table. It’s a striking continuation of their journey and a testament to their evolution as artists and storytellers.

With I Love You Too, three additional tracks have been added to their debut. They include “Dull” with Softcult, “Please Me” with The Linda Lindas, and “we thought it would be a good time but it was a bad time”. Each of the collaborative tracks are a burst of fun that captures the spirit of youth and camaraderie. The synergy between the band and Softcult and The Linda Lindas highlight the shared feelings of empowerment and joy. The nuanced and melodic territories of each track show off the band’s ability to balance raw energy and teenage drama into infectious tracks that appeal to one no matter the age.

Perhaps my favourite new addition is “we thought it would be a good time but it was a bad time.” Diving headfirst into the teenage experience, the song recounts relatable mishaps with humour and authenticity. It paints a picture of four friends navigating a typical high school adventure and the band’s candidness about their past serves as a reminder of the awkwardness and unpredictability of youth.

While it’s only been a year since their debut, I Love You Too reflects the maturation of Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers from their early days in high school to becoming a formidable force in music. The individual personalities within the band contribute to a rich tapestry of sound and narrative. By blending humour, authenticity, and youthful exuberance, their collective efforts on I Love You and I Love You Too have resulted in albums that wonderfully capture the complexities of growing up.

I Love You Too is a reminder that the best art often comes from those who aren’t afraid to share their stories, no matter how messy they may be.
