ALBUM REVIEW: On Earth or In Hell by Black Absinthe

Black Absinthe is set to unleash their latest offering, On Earth Or In Hell on March 27th and it is bursting with a raw, old-school rock-n-roll vibe that includes high-octane rhythms and melodic power.

Throughout On Earth Or In Hell the band effortlessly channels the spirit of classic metal legends while infusing their own unique energy and style. “Dead Queen” exudes an unfiltered honesty that reminds me of Metallica’s cover of “So What,” while “Jean Lanfray” snags inspiration from a 1905 headline about the influence of alcoholism, and in “Call of the Void” the band explores that intrusive thoughts. Throughout On Earth Or In Hell echoes the raw power and intensity of old-school Metallica, yet Black Absinthe manages to carve out their own distinct sound, blending thrash and NWOBHM influences with modern technicality.

Formed in 2011 in Toronto, Black Absinthe’s influences range from Gojira to Motorhead and their sound is a fusion of classic metal grandeur and contemporary heaviness. Over the years, they have continued to evolve and experiment, culminating in the creation of On Earth Or In Hell.

With its blistering guitar solos, thunderous rhythms, and gritty vocals, On Earth Or In Hell is an album that should be played at eleven!
