ALBUM REVIEW: Wild Fever by The Hazytones

Music Review
Shelia Taylor
May 2, 2024

On May 10th, The Hazytones will release their album Wild Fever and it is sure to ignite a storm of fuzz-fueled heavy rock that delivers a sonic experience that’s as intoxicating as it is electrifying.

On the album the band says,

“Long awaited follow up by The Hazytones is finally here, it’s a fucking pure stoner gem wrapped in heavy rock delight! Delayed many times because what our world has been through the last couple of years, Wild Fever is finally here.”

Setting the stage with its hooky riffs is the title track and album opener, “Wild Fever”. It sucks one into a world where the boundaries between past and present blur and where familiar yet toxic situations feel safe and cosy.

The band says this of the title track,

“Imagine having a fever and the only cure is massive waves of destructive distortions mixed with haunting melodies, that’s what having a Wild Fever is all about.”

Turning the intensity up to eleven, “Red” is fuelled by low tones, thundering chugs, and a dynamic shift that mirrors the adrenaline rush of taking a daring risk.

Then there is the delicious bass in “Night is Young” and the slow steady rhythm of “Disease” that lyrically looks at the aftermath of failed relationships.

With Mick Martel on vocals and guitar, Gabriel Prieur on drums, John Choffel on guitar, and Caleb Sanders on bass, The Hazytones have created an album that reflects their evolution as musicians and their resilience in the face of adversity. Mixed by Esben from Monolord and mastered by Kent Stump from Wo Fat, Wild Fever shows off the band’s unique blend of ’70s rock with a modern twist of doom and gloom.

In a world where uncertainty reigns, Wild Fever stands as a testament to the power of music to unite listeners in a shared experience of pure, unadulterated rock ‘n’ roll ecstasy.
