In late January of this year, Helsink’s Gardenhead unveiled their eponymous debut album, a genre bending and genre blending album that defies expectations and sound.
The album’s opening track, “At the Footsteps,” captivates listeners with its magnificent flamenco-inspired guitar work, seamlessly transitioning into haunting vocals and melodies reminiscent of Coheed and Cambria‘s sound. Meanwhile, “Sanctuary,” shows Jonne’s vocal prowess and it showcases the vocal influence of James Maynard. The drums and bass also reverberate with a Tool and A Perfect Circle sound that reflects their impact on Gardenhead.
The post-apocalyptic “Devour” exudes a palpable heaviness that distinguishes it as a standout track. Throughout the eight tracks of the album, Gardenhead fearlessly explores the boundaries of progressive rock and alternative metal, pushing the envelope with their experimental approach to sound.
Embodying a fusion that is both progressive rock and alternative metal, Gardenhead fearlessly experiments with their sound throughout the album. Despite their genre-defying explorations, Gardenhead maintains a steadfast focus on lyrical and musical melodies, ensuring that their compositions resonate deeply with listeners.
Gardenhead, the band and album, is a perfect representation of how musicians can blend influences to create a unique sound. Influences are heard, but they are not a carbon copy of the influence.
