Dieth is a force to be reckoned with. Featuring an iconic line up of Dave Ellefson, Guilherme Miranda, and Michał Łysejko, to say their debut album, To Hell and Back, was highly anticipated would be an understatement for thrash and death metal fans.
On the album Ellefson says,,
This album has been a terrific collaboration, building upon our past as we created a new sound together.
To Hell and Back was mixed and mastered by Tomasz Zed Zalewski and features the first ever lead vocal performance from the legendary Ellefson himself on the track “Walk with Me Forever”. The song is a ballad that explores the loss of a loved one and how their memory can provide the strength to carry on.
On the song, Ellefson adds,
We’ve all experienced loss and grief at some point in our life, and this song expresses that feeling as well as the gratitude we find when accepting, letting go and carrying the beauty of that person’s life with us as we move on.
The title and lead track of the album, “To Hell and Back” contains the essence of each individual band member and pulls the trio together to be a force de jour. The song is fast, furious, and a relentless and glorious assault on the ears.
To Hell and Back only slows for the aforementioned ballad and closing instrumental track, “Severance”, otherwise one is crushed by a wall of sound that is filled with aggression, screaming guitar riffs, intense bass grooves, rapid fire drumming.
That song that steals the spotlight and hoards it all to itself is the song “Free Us All”. The song opens with a swampy guitar and bass before slamming one with neck breaking guitars, bass, and drums. The vocals of Miranda and Ellefson are a perfect match of aggression and anger.
The ability to write and perform heavy hitters, ballads, and beautiful instrumentals shows the immense talent of Dieth. They’re not afraid to comfort you and punch you in the gut at the same time.
Like the band itself, To Hell and Back is a force to be reckoned with.
