DEBUT EP REVIEW: In Heaven by Siblings

Introducing South London’s Siblings, a cohesive musical ensemble composed of Theo DW (vocals/guitar), Ben Andrewes (drums), Rob Fenner (guitar/keys), and Michael Webb (bass). Though not bound by blood, they embrace an unbreakable familial harmony.

With their self-sustaining ethos, Siblings masterfully self-produced and mixed In Heaven, showcasing not only a cult-like solidarity within their artistic process but also expressing that unbreakable familial harmony they embrace. In Heaven’s four track collection transcends eras as it navigates between the laid-back essence of ’70s classics and the ethereal aura of ’80s jazz.

On the lead single, Theo says,

“‘Evangeline’ is about feeling desire and its relationship with the self. I think it can be an immensely destructive, powerful emotion that sits in everyone. I got pretty fascinated by the concept of a collective shadow, how we all affect one another in deep ways often without even realising. When Rob played me the riff its intensity sparked these feelings, the song has an urgency to it and was written quickly together, then arranged with the others.”

He further adds this about the title track “In Heaven”,

“‘I have dreamed of you so much you are no longer real’ said Robert Desnos. A succinct reflection on the song’s sentiment: musing on loss and lamenting the passing of time, it’s a piece of hauntology; longing for a loved one now departed. Musically referential to the likes of Carol King and Burt Bacharach the song is enigmatic, dark and romantic. It feels like a midpoint between the figurative and literal aspects of the writing—it is a ‘so long’ to those departed, both friends and relationships that now only exist in the shadows of thought.”

Effortlessly surfing soft waves of ’70s folkie jazz and with an introspective lens, In Heaven guides one a tranquil journey through dreams, loss, and desire.
