DEBUT EP REVIEW: Reflections in Sound by Edit the Tide

If one is to celebrate a milestone like being together for a year, why not celebrate with a debut EP!

Edit the Tide came together in April 2023 with Benjamin James on vocals, Rob Norris on rhythm guitar, Gavin David on lead guitar, Rudy Mason on drums, and David Snell on bass. With the band a year older, their debut EP Reflections in Sound is not just an introduction to the band but a celebration of their musical journey so far.

From the opening notes of “Ambience,” it’s evident that Edit The Tide isn’t just here to make noise; they’re here to make a statement. With haunting melodies and introspective lyrics, the song looks at the depths of guilt and consequence, inviting listeners to confront their own past decisions. Seamlessly transitioning into “Unite and Rebel,” the band paints a vivid picture of the pandemic experience, channelling the collective frustration and longing for freedom amidst a backdrop of societal upheaval.

“Paradigm” takes a bold stance against the monotony of everyday life, urging listeners to break free from the chains of conformity and pursue their passions with fervour. Meanwhile, “With Regret” is a reminder to embrace change and let go of the burdens of regret, echoing the sentiment that growth often emerges from the ashes of past mistakes.

Closing out the EP is “The Moment,” a triumphant anthem of resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity. With impassioned vocals, Edit The Tide delivers a message of hope and solidarity, reminding us that even in our darkest moments, we have the strength to rise again.

Reflections in Sound showcases the band’s dynamic range and inventive songwriting. From the soaring riffs to the thunderous rhythms to the powerful vocals each member of Edit The Tide brings their own unique flair to the table, resulting in a sound that is both cohesive and captivating.

The tide is rising, and Edit The Tide is leading the way with Reflections in Sound.
