DD McGrane and CJ Wallace, the dynamic duo of McGrane & Wallace, are like two friends who lived across the street from each other for years without realising they both had a hidden talent. Hailing from different backgrounds, DD, a native Angelino, grew up as a true California girl, while CJ, from a small Midwestern town, pursued her creative passions, including a love for the theatrical arts. Life took them down different paths, with DD becoming a teacher and CJ entering the medical field, all while their musical dreams lay dormant.
Then, fate intervened. DD’s creative itch resurfaced, prompting her to pick up her guitar and start writing songs. The pandemic lockdown provided her with the opportunity to perform her original music via Zoom. However, minutes before her performance, a power failure hit her side of the street. In a serendipitous turn of events, she ended up performing from CJ’s living room. Inspired by DD’s music, CJ spontaneously offered to perform with her, and the duo was born.
Their debut single, “P.C.H.,” is a longing ode to California’s laid-back, sun-soaked culture. With harmonious vocals, layered guitars, and a Laurel Canyon vibe, the song invites nostalgia for simpler times. It also carries a deeper message, reminding us to embrace the present as the past is fleeting.
For DD and CJ, McGrane & Wallace is a second chance and proof that it’s never too late to chase your dreams. Their unlikely journey into music serves as a heartwarming reminder that sometimes, life’s most beautiful surprises occur when you least expect them.
