Rage Funk – Noun
1. A sonic and visual dimension where raw, unconventional emotions and desires reign free.
2. A transcendental union of anger and joy
The debut single from Los Angeles artist Kanwal, “Tuggin’ Me Back” allows him to explore social projections through funky beats with distorted vocals, reversed electric guitar slides, sound effects, synths and more.
On the song, Kanwal explains
I wanted this one to feel like you’re listening to a radio pop song, but in ‘the upside down’. It’s a song on the edge, and to me it reflects the idea that we always live on the edge of our socially accepted selves.
No stranger to being exposed to cultural influences or music, Kanwal was born to an Indian/Sikh father and a Russian/Jewish mother and this allowed young Kanwal to explore experiencing how to express himself through sound and music.
“Tuggin’ Me Back” is just the beginning for Kanwal as he plans to release three more songs through the rest of the year.
He says this of the future tracks,
Each track is going to come with a visual and bring you further into the world of rage funk. This is just the beginning. My vision is to bring as many artists and music consumers as possible into this new genre.
