A project born from the creative depths of multi-instrumentalist Greg Green, Burnt Sherpa is set to bring nostalgia back with his debut EP, Last or Later. Out on May 17, Last or Later traverses through the realms of ’90s grunge, ’00s stoner rock, and the ’80s underground to deliver rock n’ roll that delightfully resonates with both familiarity and innovation.
The genesis of Burnt Sherpa finds its roots in Greg’s tenure as a founding member and former bass player of the stoner rock outfit Mr. Plow. After the release of their album Maintain Radio Silence in 2018, Greg felt the weight of the band’s commitments becoming overwhelming and made the difficult decision to step away. However, his passion for music remained undiminished, leading him to embark on a solo journey under the moniker Burnt Sherpa.
Drawing inspiration from a diverse array of influences, Burnt Sherpa‘s sound echoes the raw intensity of ’90s grunge icons like Soundgarden and the melancholic depth of Smashing Pumpkins but also finds inspiration in acts like the late Jeff Buckley and classic rock legends such as Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.
On his recent single, “Difficult Gift,” Burnt Sherpa says,
“The death of Mark Lanegan initially inspired ‘Difficult Gift’. Very few celebrity deaths have had much of an effect on me, but when he passed, it hit me harder than I expected. The title comes from the idea that our work as artists can be a “difficult gift” for those we leave behind.”
The poignant reflection on the impact of artists on our lives and the enduring nature of their work is but a mere glimpse into the depth of Last or Later. Featuring six tracks, the EP will take one on a transformative journey from moments of joy to contemplative reflections on mortality. With producer Dean Dichoso (Candlebox) at the helm, Last or Later showcases Burnt Sherpa‘s knack for blending nostalgic influences with a modern edge.
