DISCOVER: Kerala Dust

Music

Man, did the YouTube algorithms do me a solid in showing Kerala Dust in the sidebar.

I quickly fell in love with “Moonbeam, Midnight, Howl” and fell down the Kerala Dust rabbit hole.

Edmund Kenny (vocals/electronics), Harvey Grant (keys) and Lawrence Howarth (guitars) joined forces in 2016 to unite their influences of psychedelic rock, blues and techno into one.

The band says this of their sound,

Driving sounds for late nights; or perhaps you’re on a street somewhere in the Western hemisphere, and a shiny new car passes you by too fast, like something from a glossy magazine, and before you know it, it’s gone again.

The trio have released 2016’s Motions EP, 2017’s Late Sun EP, 2018’s Francesca’s Frames EP, 2020’s Light, West LP, and their latest release Violet Drive.

Aside from the insanely catchy beats in “Moonbeam, Midnight, Howl” Edmund’s vocals gave me Peter Murphy of Bauhaus and Andrew Eldritch of Sisters of Mercy vibes. He has deliciously low tones and it resonates with a bold and seductive bass that is sure to make any human with a pulse weak in the knees.

But the catchy beats and bassy voice doesn’t just stop with “Moonbeam, Midnight, Howl”, they are infused throughout Violet Drive.

Violet Drive’s 12 glorious tracks are captivating, pulsating, and hypnotic allowing one to mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually to get lost in the music.

With each EP, song, and album Kerala Dust has released, their music has matured and grown exponentially.
