Could Velour Fog be the next wave of British rock? With their blend of 90s grunge and 00s nu-metal, Velour Fog is the antidote to the mundane. Led by frontman and lead guitarist Jake, whose vocals often evoke the spirit of the late Layne Staley from Alice in Chains, the band serves up a potent mix of music nostalgia and good ol’ modern day rock vibes.
Formed in 2020, Velour Fog wasted no time in making their mark. With Jake on guitar and vocals, he’s backed by the powerhouse rhythms of drummer Moose and bassist Naois Bonar along with guitarist Marshall. While Velour Fog draws inspiration from the greats of the 80s and 90s, their sound is undeniably their own, a reflection of their passion for pushing boundaries and carving out their place in rock history. As Ozzy Osbourne famously declared, “You can’t kill rock n roll, it’s here to stay,” and Velour Fog embodies that sentiment with every riff, lick, and thunderous beat.
Their latest track, “Glue,” produced by Nick Tauber, known for his work with Thin Lizzy and Def Leppard, is evidence to Velour Fog‘s sonic prowess. The song feels as if it could have been born from Alice in Chains themselves. There’s a wonderful nostalgic energy within “Glue” but it’s the rap toward the end of the song that makes it a Velour Fog song.
“Dopehead”, released late last year, is a mix of 90s grunge and nu-metal, showcasing the band’s ability to seamlessly fuse classic influences with their unique flair. I hear a mix of Alice in Chains and Limp Bizkit that wonderfully blends the best of both nostalgic sounds into an infectious and catchy song.
With their eyes set on the future and a sound that refuses to be ignored, Velour Fog is reminding audiences everywhere that rock n roll is alive and kicking!
