EP REVIEW: Better Late Than Never by Mared

To be honest, when I sat down for my daily listening session for Amplify the Noise, I lacked the inclination and patience, but Mared and her latest EP Better Late Than Never (May 10) stopped me in my tracks and made me take notice.

With her blend of folk-infused soul-pop, the multi-talented artist hailing from North Wales seamlessly weaves each note together with her Welsh roots and the vibrant energy of the city.

Following the success of her previous single, “Lately,” a heartfelt homage to the Laurel Canyon Movement of the late sixties, Mared‘s musical journey reflects her nomadic lifestyle, split between the tranquil landscapes of rural Wales and the bustling streets of London. This dichotomy infuses her music with a sense of exploration, as she navigates between her traditional Welsh roots and the contemporary sounds of the urban landscape.

Better Late Than Never’s five tracks are enchanting and mesmerising. There’s an intimacy to each song and a soft vulnerability that enchants one as they’re listening. Mared’s dynamic vocals and infectious energy captivate and can literally rip one out of a bad mood.

While staying true to her roots and her authentic self, Mared fearlessly explores the depths of her own voice and sound. That fearlessness and authenticity shines throughout Better Late Than Never. It’s an instant mood lifter. Like MaredBetter Late Than Never is as soul-stirring as it is unforgettable.
