EP REVIEW: Falling Into Place by Dela Kay

Music Review
Shelia Taylor
July 22, 2024

Dela Kay has returned with a powerful new EP, Falling Into Place. The collection of songs available now marks a significant chapter in her career, as it captures her journey through adversity and her triumphant emergence on the other side.

Co-written by Dela Kay, Nick Cozine, and Stefano Pigliapoco, Falling Into Place is a heartfelt chronicle of her experiences and the path to rediscovery. After enduring a traumatic brain injury and a subsequent sexual assault, Dela Kay faced a decline in her mental and physical health. These dark times, however, were the catalyst for her profound transformation. With the support of co-producer Ryan Dulude and main producer Pigliapoco, she found a creative haven where everything indeed fell into place.

The title track, written during her initial session with Stefano and Nick, is a heartfelt centrepiece of the EP. It dives deep into the depths of anxiety, depression, and trauma, yet it carries a message of hope and resilience. Dela’s voice, both fragile and powerful, navigates these themes with raw honesty, making it a beacon for those grappling with similar struggles.

As she puts it,

“The title track is a message to my fans that things do get better, even when they seem hopeless.”

Falling Into Place is proof of Dela Kay‘s resilience and artistic freedom. Each track on the EP is a reflection of her authenticity and vulnerability, both are the hallmarks of her music. The high-energy beats and emotive lyrics create a compelling contrast, showcasing her ability to turn pain into powerful artistry.

Songs like “Safe Harbor” and “Brave” highlight her journey from darkness to light. “Safe Harbor” offers a sanctuary of soothing melodies, while “Brave” is an anthem of courage and strength. Both tracks exemplify her ability to connect deeply with her audience, sharing her personal story in a way that resonates universally. While “Nasty” is an anthem to those women who are empowered by their own sexuality.

Dela Kay’s collaboration with supportive friends and producers shines the EP. The synergy in their creative process is detectable in every note and brings forth a collection of songs that are as cohesive as they are impactful. This EP is not just music; it’s a narrative of survival and rebirth.

In Falling Into Place, Dela Kay has created more than an EP; she has crafted a lifeline for herself and her listeners. It’s a reminder that even in the darkest times, there is a way forward, and that art can be a powerful tool for healing and connection.
