EP REVIEW: Happy Endings are Overrated by The Bad Electric

Swansea’s DIY band, The Bad Electric are Jonny Randell (guitar, vocals), Matt Williams (guitar, synth, vocals), Zach Williams (bass, vocals), and Tom Young (drums). Catch them live and you’ll see them wearing orange stage jackets, turning out an infectious blend of punk, indie, alternative and electro tunes infused with their cheeky humour.

Nipping at the heels of their latest singles “Beans” and “I Guess I’m From Here Now” is their EP, Happy Endings Are Overrated that is out on December 8th.

Within the six tracks,The Bad Electric navigate a musical fusion of genres in songs like “Beans,” “I Guess I’m From Here Now,” and “Bonk Eye,” while exceptionally rising above conventional limits of genres in songs, “Moff Kant,” “No Way Kid,” and “Bomber”

No matter if they’re fusing genres together or standing out on their own in a genre with a refreshing approach, The Bad Electric are as bright and bold as their orange stage jackets.

Listen closely and one will hear moments within Happy Endings are Overrated that are influenced by Foo Fighters, Ramones, Devo, and more. The Bad Electric skillfully incorporates their influences which transforms them into a sound that is uniquely their own. It’s not merely about embracing the echoes of their inspirations but rather harnessing them to craft a fresh and original sound.

Happy Endings Are Overrated is as bold as The Bad Electric. Bold in sound. Bold in pushing boundaries. But mostly, the EP is non-stop rocking fun from beginning to end, allowing The Bad Electric’s natural talent for crafting music to defy the typical boundaries of noisy punk with a tight, cohesive, and authentic sound.
