EP REVIEW: Id3ntity by Ward XVI

With Id3ntity, Ward XVI bring their decade-long narrative arc to a violent and theatrical close. The North West England six-piece once again turns a concept album into a full sensory experience that is one part horror opera and one part heavy metal assault. Following the deranged descent of fictional serial killer Psychoberrie, this third and final installment not only ties up the story, but detonates it.

By pushing the band’s signature fusion of metalcore, hard rock, and twisted showmanship to its highest form, tracks like “What’s In The Box?” and “Amoeba of Madness” layer punchy riffs with sharp dynamic shifts and macabre flair, Even the brief and haunting interludes feel carefully crafted by building tension and framing the chaos. “We Are Legion,” acts as a rallying cry that fuses narrative climax with anthemic rage.

Anchored by frontwoman Psychoberrie’s commanding vocals and theatrics, Ward XVI shows a tighter cohesion than ever. Doktor Von Stottenstein, Wolfy Huntsman, and Bam Bam Bedlan deliver hard-hitting guitar, bass, and drum work, while the theatrics of Rico Rameres and Nurse Betty turn the music into a full-blown production.

Ward XVI isn’t interested in safe ideas or subtle arcs. Id3ntity is a declaration of purpose. One that is grisly, dramatic, and thrilling in its commitment to a complete artistic vision. If Metamorphosis was a dark awakening, Id3ntity is the final unraveling. Told with fire, fury, and hooks sharp enough to scar, Id3ntity is a warning shot for anyone who underestimates theatrical metal’s potential to cut deep and leave marks.
