EP REVIEW: Seasons: Vol. 1 by Blessed Black

Opening a new chapter in the career of Blessed Black, their forthcoming EP, Seasons: Vol. 1 (out September 1) will feature the debut of guitarist Jake Stone and sees the band diving deep into the human condition of existentialism, grief, healing, and rediscovery.

Lead track, “Hellbender” was inspired by a conversation that Joshua Murphy (vocals, guitar) had with his father who battled cancer and he says this about the track,

It focuses on how temporary life can be, and how easy it is to lose sight of what’s actually important in life.

The first single from the EP, “Obsidian” explores how to rediscover oneself after tragedy, loss and grief while closing song, “Unable” is about watching someone succumbing to addiction.

Through their reflective lyrics, 70’s inspired organs, heavy and doom laden riffs Blessed Black not only delivers a sonic experience but also allows space for an immersive emotionally charged experience into the darker side of emotions and existence.

Seasons: Vol. 1 is a captivating journey into the doom. Listen to “Obsidian” below.
