Discovering new music is my drug of choice and sliding into our inbox with a blues rock infused jam was Toronto’s The Blues Emergency and their single “A Love Revolution”.
And well…I have a lot of feels on this song.
First, let’s talk about The Blues Emergency. They are John Brand (bass), Emir Halilovic (guitar), Andy du Rego (vocals), and Marshall Baglieri (drums) who released their debut album The Machine in 2017 and gained a cult following. That following propelled the band to keep making music.
On the song, the Andy says this,
“It all started with a guitar riff that our guitar player Emir had for some time in his back pocket. He presented the riff to myself and we quickly got to work on the song by sending recorded ideas back and forth via email from our home studios. After arranging and recording the song in our home studios produced by Emir and I, we sent the track off to Pete Swann of Attitude Productions for mixing who did an amazing job in bringing the song to life. Then forward it over to Noah Mintz of Lacquer Channel Mastering who in turn put his magic to work.”
The opening to “A Love Revolution” is infused with a wonderful and heavy guitar riff and the bass and drums match the heaviness perfectly, but what intrigues me the most are Andy’s vocals. His vocals are a mix of every rock and blues vocalist, yet uniquely his own. It’s the edgy rasp to his vocals that are captivating. At moments, he reminds me of one of my favourite vocalists, Stephen Shareaux (Kik Tracee, Zen from Mars) and at other moments his vocals remind me of the late Scott Weiland.
“A Love Revolution” is not merely a song; it’s an electrifying anthem of change and an infectious rally cry for peaceful dissent. It just so happens to be in the disguise of a high-octane musical adrenaline rush that demands maximum volume.
