When I tell you I am absolutely enamoured by SPELLES (stylised in all caps). I mean they currently can do no wrong and to say their single “Holy Hells” blew me away would be an understatement.
Songwriters, instrumentalists, and producers Kathryn Baar and Luc Laurent make up the dynamic duo of SPELLES and hot on the heels of “Holy Hells” comes their latest single, “Beginning and Endings”.
Both tracks are set to grace their debut album Diving Into the Arms of the Divine, out on November 15th on Sierra Bonita Records.
If “Holy Hells” felt like a spiritual revelation, “Beginning and Endings” transports you to a moment in your spiritual odyssey where there’s a sense of tranquillity before the tempest. It’s that reflective instant when you recognise that the journey ahead holds the potential for both profound transformation and heart-wrenching trials, yet every moment of joy and pain is worth embracing.
Kathryn’s vocals lend remarkable depth and tenderness to the relentless quest for something greater, exploring the eternal question of what lies within our reach.
What truly anchors “Beginnings and Endings” is its musical foundation. The haunting interplay of piano, synths, and percussion creates an aura of serenity and stillness, providing the perfect backdrop for Kathryn’s powerhouse vocals and the contemplative lyrics.
On the creation of the song, Kathryn says,
I started writing this song with the piano arpeggio. Luc heard me playing it and suggested changing the rhythm. Once I did, the song quickly came to fruition.
One can find a beautiful starting point on the path to discovering their own truths with “Beginnings and Endings” and the bonus is that the song is not only a comforting friend but is also a divine soundtrack for that internal soul searching.
