Adult Leisure has done it again! The Bristol-based four-piece returns with their latest single, “Borderline,” an upbeat and infectious track that showcases their signature blend of groove, emotion, and danceable vibes.
Since forming in 2020, vocalist Neil Scott, guitarist David Woolford, bassist James Laing, and drummer Nathan Searle have consistently impressed with their evolving sound. Their debut EP, The Weekend Ritual (2022), highlighted their talent for crafting bouncy, bright, and memorable songs. They built on this strong foundation with their sophomore release, Present State of Joy and Grief (2023), and “Borderline” continues to advance both their momentum and their sound.
Originating from a Police-inspired demo, “Borderline” marks a natural evolution from Present State of Joy and Grief. The recording process with producer Ollie Searle enabled the band to experiment and refine their sound, leading to what they now consider their strongest track.
The song’s effervescent and upbeat sound captures the vibrant essence of the 80s with nostalgic flair. Its bright and infectious melody blends classic 80s elements with Adult Leisure’s distinctive and spirited edge. Drawing from Neil’s personal experiences, “Borderline” explores the emotional aftermath of a long-term relationship’s end, balancing individual pain with relatable sentiment.
With its catchy hooks and nostalgic vibes, “Borderline” stands as a testament to Adult Leisure’s knack for crafting earworms that linger long after the music stops. It’s a vibrant piece of pop-rock that will hypnotise and enamour one’s soul.
