2024 is the year of abundance, balance, and success and Stela Cole is preparing to reap the rewards the Universe has ready for her.
In 2023, focusing on her mental health, Stela would leave her label and social media for more nurturing things like guitar, the studio and her favourite records.
The result?
Her latest single, “Die Hard”.
And whew boy, what a single to mark her return.
There’s a fine line Stela dances with her voice, one that is a heartbroken muse and one that is whiskey soaked femme fatale hellbent on revenge. It’s the flow between soft and grit that makes Stela’s voice on “Die Hard” a complicated puzzle that should not be solved. To solve it, would be to lose the raw power and visceral emotion that she perfectly provides in the song. Keeping the music to simple beats and arrangements on a seamlessly never ending loop, allows Stela’s voice to flawless shine.
Defiantly staring at the endless cycle of pain camouflaging itself as love, Stela says this about the song,
“This is something I struggled with for a long time. I’d let myself fall for someone I knew wasn’t good for me, and even in moments of courage, I’d pack my bags and somehow end up right back where I started. Sometimes, habits take an entire lifetime to break. ‘Die Hard’ is about my experience of consistently choosing the wrong path with the wrong people… even when I know where it ends.”
That wrong path and people are wonderfully shown in the accompanying video for “Die Hard”. Featuring Noah Gonzalez and directed by award winning directors Eliot Lee and Maya Sasson, the dark yet seductive video brings the lyrics and Stela’s emotive vocals to life.
