Not only did Mid City release a new single, “Emily”, they announced their debut album Happy Ever After will be out on August 25th.
Cue screaming!!
Excitement is a goddamn understatement. I have been following this band ever since I heard their 2018 single “Dead Broke Blues” and while I was more than happy when they teased a new single, a debut album to boot is the icing on the cake.
What I’ve always enjoyed about Mid City is their sound. The drums and guitars always float near being Larry Mullen Jr and Edge-esque. They’re effortless, clean, and crisp in their sound and the bass always pulsates with a reverberating crack that beats in time with one’s heart.
Their latest single “Emily”, encases that wonderful wall of sound that they manage to create just as a four piece band.
Like their previous tracks, the music of “Emily” is upbeat, exciting, and vibrant, but the music betrays a heavier tone in the lyrics…a sadness about letting go and moving on.
“Emily” flourishes with beautiful guitars, rumbling bass, searing drums, and heartfelt vocals. It captures the essence of Mid City wonderfully in 3 minutes and 24 seconds.
