HOT TRACK: “Higher Power” by Scott Stapp

If you listened to the radio in the 00’s, one could not escape Creed or the vocal stylings that were inspired by frontman Scott Stapp. They seemingly exploded overnight and imploded overnight. They were loved by their fans, hated by others. No matter where you stood or still stand on the thoughts of the band or their vocalist, there is no denying they were a talented bunch.

Scott Stapp has joined forces again with Napalm Records for his forthcoming to-be-named (or at least to be announced) album. On the first single, “Higher Power” from the album, Scott says,

Life’s mysteries can be unraveled by listening to one’s inner voice. For me, that means leaning on my faith in God and listening to His voice to guide me through the struggles and darkness. For others, whether it’s through art, nature, science, family, or a combination of all, tapping into a higher power is an individualized process that requires an open mind and a willingness to flow with a force that’s greater than the individual.

Written during the quarantine and reflective of his own near-death experiences, “Higher Power” is a banger of a song. The guitars are heavy, the bass booms, and the drums crush and Scott’s vocals are fresh and crisp as first heard back when he and Creed broke radio. There’s nothing to not like about “Higher Power”. Infectious, heavy, and melodic, “Higher Power” is a perfect rock anthem.
