The Rasmus know how to write an infectious song and as a long time fan, “Jezebel” is possibly one of their most infectious tracks I have ever heard.
The band teamed back up with songwriter and producer extraordinaire, Desmond Child (Bon Jovi, Kiss, Ricky Martin, Selena Gomez, the list goes on), who worked with the band on their album Black Roses. Vocalist Lauri Ylönen said, “It was awesome to work with Desmond again. He really knows how to put a hit song together.”
And good god all mighty…what a hit song “Jezebel” is. It won Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu and the band will represent Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in May. Written by Lauri and Desmond, Lauri says, “‘Jezebel’ is a homage, a tribute, to the strong women of today, who own their bodies, who are in charge of their sensuality, their sexuality, and who are determined to be an equal”.
The track opens with a slick guitar riff from guitarist, Emilia Suhonen, before Aki Hakala (drums) and Eero Heinonen (bass) join her with one of the most infectious drum bass lines I have ever heard from the band. The trio provide a tethered and beautiful balance of aggression and strength to the heartfelt admiration of Lauri’s vocals.
One listen and you’re hooked.
One listen and you’re singing Jezebel’s name.
I’ll be playing this song on repeat until I’m sick of it.
