There is no safeword required for the debut single, “Safeword” by The Bedside Morale.
But should we go along with the song, my safe words would be, TURN THE VOLUME UP TO 11.
The Beside Morale is composed of Tim Kazer on vocals, guitars, Charlie Dowzell on lead guitar, Kynan Scott on bass, and T Coles on drums, and “Safeword” is taking me back to late 90’s rock when music was infectious with zippy guitars, head bopping drums, groovalicious bass, catchy lyrics, and vocals that you wanted to emulate.
On the song, Tim says,
It reflects on the comfort but also the denial that people find hiding behind the rose tinted lenses of their youth. We had so much fun putting this song together with our producer Josh Gallop and there are some really special moments which came out of the spontaneity of those sessions. This marks the first single for us as a band and we feel it showcases our intention and solidifies our style. Everyone should have a Safeword, here is ours.
That comfort of nostalgia has paid off.
Aside from the aforementioned zippy guitars, head bopping drums, groovalicious bass, catchy lyrics, and vocals that you wanted to emulate, “Safeword” is not only a song one can bang their head to but a song one can dance to.
Of course, what I notice the most, and I’m biassed as I am a sucker for a good bass groove, is the bass. It’s a low rumble that just glides through the song with a beautiful ease and breath. It allows the drums and guitars to float effortlessly throughout the song as Tim’s vocals balance between that of desire and awareness.
The unified clean sound is no surprise from a band who’s been making music albeit under different iterations since 2014. As a debut single, “Safeword” is genuine rock with just a dash of pop and a whole lotta swagger and fun.
