Here’s a little secret about me…I like all music. My preference may be rock and metal, but if it’s got a good beat, a slick bass line, or catchy lyrics, there’s a sure fire chance I’m going to like it. Music is broad and versatile, so I feel that my listening habits should be too.
An artist that is versatile as music is fluid is mixed media performing artist, Street Fever. The anonymous performer’s latest single, “Sinner” from their upcoming debut album Absolution is less about wrong doing and more about freedom and inner strength.
With a diverse interest in everything from hardcore, rap, EBM, and more Street Fever channels their experience of loss, being institutionalised, near death, addiction, and recovery into not only personal and spiritual growth, but into a cacophony of sound that is a sonic awakening.
The accompanying video is a mini documentary of Street Fever’s tour across the US and a performance piece that allows one to experience the theatrics and artistry of their live performances.
To say Street Fever has overcome tribulations is an understatement, but their resilience creates a sound that for me seethes with the likes of Rage Against the Machine and Nine Inch Nails. It’s bold, bright, and infectious.
And that bold, bright, and infectiousness is clearly heard in “Sinner” and seen in the video for the song.
With “Sinner”, Street Fever is freeing one from the chaos of the mind and the patriarchy.
