As a child of the 80s, Taylor Dayne holds a revered place among my musical icons. Speaking ill of Ms. Dayne feels sacrilegious, and imagining anyone surpassing her vocal powers seemed implausible. So, when I read the release for Ferris Foley’s debut single “Tell It To My Heart,” my initial reaction was a very sceptical ‘ain’t ‘no way!’
But goddamn, YES WAY!
Combining an admiration of 80s iconic movie characters, Ferris Bueller, Marty McFly, and Axel Foley, into their name, Ferris McFoley is vocalist Stephan Lipp and guitarist Mack Schildknecht and their cover of the 1987 hit is fan-fucking-tastic.
Infused with a refined metal edge, Ferris Foley transforms the 80s pop track into a high-octane rocker. Stephan’s vocals are reminiscent of the hair metal legend and suave crooner David Coverdale, combined with Mack’s exhilarating guitar work the song is propelled from dance floor classic to an energetic anthemic pit ready thrash.
Ferris McFoley has brilliantly transformed the 80s classic into a modern rock masterpiece that is brimming with boundless energy and fervour.
