Dropping in quick succession with “Succubus” hitting the airwaves on October 26th, followed by “Killer in the Night” on October 31st, Dräger‘s latest two tracks from his forthcoming album are a double shot of pure musical magic. The serendipitous alignment of these back-to-back releases has granted me the delightful opportunity to explore both of them in one fell swoop.
Accolades abound for Dräger on his use of the devilish word to describe a love that could or would annihilate one’s soul.
On his Instagram, Dräger shared insight into the single, revealing it to be a reflection on the perilous journey of being unhealthily in love with the one thing or person destined to be one’s undoing.
This isn’t Dräger‘s maiden voyage through the treacherous waters of love’s torment either. If one recalls this year’s earlier release “Midnight Mystery”, it too explored the red flags in love.
With “Succubus” Dräger continues with music that is blissfully if not sinfully doused in the dark black goth edges of artists of the 80’s and 90’s. The looping beats and synths craft an atmospheric aura that invokes a sense of suffocating intensity, akin to said malevolent demon perched atop one’s chest. Yet, it’s also an experience drenched in sheer delight.
It’s Dräger’s meticulous attention to detail that allows “Succubus” to be a harmonious duality of pleasure and pain. This heightened awareness of the nuances in his music has always been the hallmark of his work, ensuring that his songs not only stand out but also endure the test of time.
To kill or be killed…
“Killer in the Night”...sweet Mary mother of god, this song is just stunning. It’s as if this song was plucked from the heart-pounding intensity of an 80s action movie, a flawless embodiment of perfection.
From Dräger’s vocals to the music to the lyrics, “Killer in the Night” is an unceasing torrent of driving beats, thunderous drums, scorching guitar riffs, and vocals laden with the burden of a man teetering on the precipice of self-destruction, driven by an irresistible force (love) that promises to be the harbinger of his demise.
“Succubus” and “Killer in the Night,” are songs that beckons one into a world of hauntingly beautiful melodies, skillfully crafted lyrics, and an atmosphere teetering on the edge of ecstasy and despair.
They’re also packed with dark vibes, killer beats, and lyrics that’ll hit one right in the feels.
